House History
Named for James Lincoln (1845-1922). One of the original members of the “Twenty-Five Year Club,” Lincoln came to Iowa State in 1883 as steward and a short time later was both steward and professor of military tactics. He served as lecturer, taught gymnastics and was a strong supporter of the athletic program. He had the distinction of holding commissions in the armies of three wars – Civil, Spanish American and World War I. He built the military department at Iowa State to a high standard and also served as commanding general of the Iowa National Guard.
