House History

Previous to his graduation at Iowa State, Martin Mortensen had attended the Royal Teachers Seminary in Denmark and also held positions in commercial firms. He was made Head of Dairy Industry at Iowa State in 1909 and served until 1938. He retired as head but continued on the staff until his death. His special interests were in butter and ice cream making and in dairy plant management. He receivedĀ  The Commanders Cross of the Order of Danneborg from the Danish Government in recognition of a lifetime of outstanding achievement in the dairy.
