House History
Bruce Firkins received two degrees from Iowa State. He joined the Iowa State staff in 1917 and was made assistant professor of soils in 1919. He taught at Iowa state for 43 years, except for a brief period during World War I, and his major interest was instruction and counseling of undergraduates. He was a varsity athlete in football, wrestling, and baseball. He assisted as a coach from 1919 to 1923, served on the Athletic Council for 16 years and was on the Memorial Union Board for 21 years. He received a Faculty Citation in 1958.
