House History
Named for Louis Schmidt (1879-1963). A well-known figure on the Iowa State Campus for 50 years, Schmidt joined the Iowa State staff in 1906 and served as professor and head of history from 1930 to 1945. He was a member of many University committees, one of which, in 1913, recommended the establishment of a music department. He probably is best noted for papers on the history of American agriculture and he was the first to introduce a course on the history of American Agriculture.
