Reiman Gardens – Free for Iowa State students, this amazing garden is an awesome place for a stroll. Be sure to check out their current exhibit Origami in the Garden while you’re there!

Art On Campus – Did you know that Iowa State has a large public art collection? Follow this digial map and take a self-guided tour!

Ames Parks – 36, that’s how many parks are in Ames! Check out the list below for details about some of our favorites. You can rent rent a kayak, canoe or paddle board from Outdoor Rec Services.

  • Ada Hayden – This park has a paved trail that loops around a pond. It’s awesome for running, walking and even kayaking!
  • Brookside – Within walking distance of campus, it’s a great place for a stroll through the woods or a picnic.
  • George Tsushima Memorial Skate Park – Right by Brookside, grab your board and practice your skills. Or, hang out and watch some talented riders!
  • Moore Memorial Park – In north Ames, it’s a great place to bike to and enjoy some outdoor studying by the pond.
  • Nutty Woods Nature Path – Go disappear in nature while you’re still in the middle of a city on this beautiful nature trail.

Bike Paths – This map has all of Ames bike paths on it. Anywhere you want to go, it’s pretty likely you can bike there!

Disc Golf – A fun activity with friends, Ames is home to two disc golf courses: Carroll Marty (by Wallace Wilson) and Stable Run (across from Freddy Court).

Story Count Conservation and Parks – If you venture just outside of Ames, Story County has even more opportunities for outdoor activities. McFarland Park is one location that has over five miles of trails and a fishing lake stocked with bluegill, bass and catfish.
