House History

Earl A. Hewitt (1891-1963) had degrees from Des Moines University (A.B. 1914), Iowa State (B.S. 1915, DVM 1918), and University of Minnesota (M.S.1929, Ph.D. 1931). He was first on the Iowa State staff from 1915-1917 and from 1917-1919. He then went to the University of Minnesota for ten years, returning to Iowa State in 1929. He became professor and head of veterinary physiology and pharmacology in 1952. He was a member of many scientific and professional societies. He was the author of Laboratory Manual in Experimental Physiology and also contributed to chapters to many well-known veterinary books.

More Details Hewitt House has a large den on the north end of the floor that has tables and chairs for studying, playing a game of cards or a quiet place to stretch out and relax. There are two bathrooms on the floor. A water bottle refill station promotes the Department of Residence’s green initiatives.
