More Details Hoxie House has a den with couches and chairs for you and your friends to hang out and talk, play a game of cards, or just relax. Each house’s bathroom has individual shower stalls that have a place for changing. A water bottle refill station promotes the Department of Residence’s green initiatives.

House History

A native of Hampton, Gertrude Hoxie joined the Iowa State staff as a housemother in 1932 and resigned in 1955. When she first came to Ames she was housemother at the Pi Beta Phi sorority, housemother for the Curtis Wright girls when they were housed at the Memorial Union, and was housemother at the Kappa Sigma fraternity for a number of years.
