Academic Success
The DOR seeks to promote an "academic living/learning environment" for students living in its facilities. Monitoring the academic progress of students in each living unit is one way of promoting their overall retention and graduation. Staff can offer additional support and resources where students are collectively not academically successful. Students, too, can measure their own success against the aggregate academic measure for their housing unit and that of others.
Midterm Grade Summaries
Midterm grade warnings are distributed by faculty to students whose grade would be an F, D, or C- in the course at that time. Some faculty also issue a midterm warning for students who are excessively absent from class. These midterm grades are summarized in aggregate form by housing unit (e.g., house, hall, apartment area) and provided to students and staff. Each report includes for each housing unit:
- The number students in the housing unit that received one, two, three, etc. midterms
- The total number of midterms for the housing unit
- The proportion of members in the housing unit receiving at least one midterm
- The proportion of freshmen living in the housing unit (because freshmen are more likely to receive midterms).

Semester Grade Summaries by Resident Unit
Semester grades are averaged and summarized in aggregate form by housing unit (e.g., house, hall, apartment area) and provided to students and staff. Students in a housing unit can then compare their progress from the previous like term, and with other housing units. Each report includes:
- The average semester grade for all students living in each housing unit.
- The previous like semester average semester grade for all students living in each housing
- The change in the housing unit GPA for all students from the previous like term.
- The average semester grade for freshmen students living in each housing unit.
- The previous like semester average semester grade for freshmen students living in each housing
- The change in the housing unit GPA for freshmen students from the previous like term.
