On-Campus Apartments
So you want the convenience and connection that on-campus living offers, but you want to live in a more independent environment? Then consider Frederiksen Court Apartments and Schilletter & University Village Apartments!
In order to be eligible to live in an on-campus apartment, you must be at least 19 years old or a sophomore or higher.
Meal plans are encouraged, but not required in our apartment communities. Most residents say they shop and dine at the Hawthorn Market and Café, located in the Frederiksen Court Community Center.
Frederiksen Court
Living at "Freddy", offers the best of both worlds: the independence of apartment living and the convenience of on-campus living.
Just a five minute walk from central campus, Frederiksen Court is located on the north side of campus on Stange Road near the Industrial Education building.
Built in 2003, Frederiksen Court is home to 1947 residents in 498 four-person apartments.
Charles Frederiksen - Frederiksen Court is named after Charles (Chuck) Frederiksen, who began his association with the ISU Department of Residence when he moved into Friley as a freshman in 1949. For nearly 50 years, Chuck had a distinguished career in the college and university housing profession. He became the Director of Residence in 1967 and retired in 1996. During his tenure at Iowa State, Chuck actively participated in the implementation, support, and nurturance of the house system. The system is one of his lasting contributions to students and student development. The emphasis of the award is on leadership at the grassroots level.
Schilletter & University Village (SUV)
There are many reasons to enjoy living in SUV and many ways to flourish in this diverse and exciting community. University Village offers housing for single students as well as mixed-gender roommate pairs. Schilleter Village is home to a number of Cyclone families!
Just a 10 minute walk from central campus, SUV is on the north end of campus on Stange Road.
Built 1973-1976, SUV houses 1149 residents in 680 apartments.
Julian Schilletter - Schilletter Village is named in honor of Julian C. "Shorty" Schilletter, who served Iowa State in various capacities from 1923 to 1972. Originally a member of the Horticulture Department faculty, Schilleter took over the management of the Memorial Union when Director Harold Pride was called to active duty in World War II. Upon Pride's return, Schilleter took over the administration of the Department of Residence, serving as Director from 1945 to 1967.
