The Department of Residence Research and Assessment staff has analyzed Mapworks data to provide information to those who use, or are interested in Mapworks since 2008.

Mapworks, Making Achievement Possible, developed in partnership with Ball State University is a comperehensive student retention and success program designed for both first and second year students. Mapworks identifies students early in the term allowing for immediate support and intervention. Mapworks then serves as the infrastructure to manage those critical outreach efforts on our campus. Mapworks utilizes a powerful heuristic which incorporates prominent student development and learning theories and integrates both profile and student experience data to ensure accurate identification of at risk students. It also positively impacts student success and retention by motivating, informing and coordinatin timely and effective interventions by faculty and staff.

The MapworksTransition Survey is sent to New Direct from High School (NDHS) and to New Transfer (NT) students around the 3rd week of the semester. The survey asks questions about expectations, behaviors and issues that revolve around two major areas: Academic and Student Development. The Mapworks Transition Survey is administered by web access. To ensure confidentiality and security of data, students access the survey through a password-protected University portal, AccessPlus or through a secure URL. An email invitation is sent to each NDHS and NT student through the Mapworks system during the third week of fall semester classes explaining that the student could access the survey through the campus portal or a secure URL.
