House System

The house system is one of Iowa State's great traditions and provides residents with a great way to meet new people and get involved in social, educational, and cultural events. Residents of the Richardson Court and Union Drive neighborhoods are members of houses, which consist of 40 to 60 students who live on the same floor or section of a residence hall. Residents elect a house cabinet to help them plan and implement house programs.

Special Types of Houses

Residential Learning Communities

Residential learning communities are located in various houses throughout the Richardson Court and Union Drive neighborhoods. They are an excellent way to make friends and enhance your academic success. Not all academic programs offer residential learning communities, and many learning communities are limited to students in certain majors.

Theme Houses

Theme houses provide opportunities for students with common interests to live together and pursue those interests through organized programs and activities. There are no academic/major requirements.

Honors Housing

Students accepted into the Honors program will be eligible to live in Honors housing. Contact the University Honors Program to apply.
