We have begun making Waitlist offers. Please check your ISU email frequently. The deadline for offer responses is typically 24 hours.
The Department of Residence (DOR) has historically prioritized housing for newly admitted first-year / transfer students while also allowing current on-campus and off-campus students the option to Recontract for on-campus housing for the following year.
For fall 2016, projections show there will be a shortage of space if the DOR operates as it has done in the past, As a result, the DOR has implemented a new Occupancy Management Plan for fall 2016.
Current residents who do not contract by 10:00 am on February 15, contracted residents who do not select an assignment by March 1, 2016, current off-campus ISU students, and Admissions Partnership Program students will not be permitted to submit a 2016-17 Housing Contract. However, because projections sometimes change making spaces available, we are offering this waitlist opportunity.
Where can I get a Waitlist Application?
We're sorry, but we have stopped accepting waitlist applications as of 12:00 noon on Monday, March 21, 2016.
How can I submit my Waitlist Application?
You can submit your application any one of the following ways:
- Email - firstname.lastname@example.org
- In person - 2419 Friley Hall
- By mail - Department of Residence 2419 Friley Hall Ames, IA 50012
By fax - 515-294-0623
How will I know my place on the waitlist?
Beginning March 2016 you can visit Fall 2016 Waitlist
to view your position on the waitlist. We will update this list every Tuesday. Additionally, we will contact everyone on the waitlist the week of March 21 to report on how current numbers (at that time) compare to projections. Hopefully, this will help inform us all on the likelihood of waitlist assignments being made.
When will waitlist assignments be made?
Submitting a Waitlist Application DOES NOT guarantee you will receive a fall 2016 assignment.
Our ability to offer you a space depends on how many contracts are received from newly admitted students and current residents (prior to February 14), as well as the number of cancellations we receive during the summer. If we are able to offer assignments to waitlisted students, it will likely not be until late-July / early-August.
What if I need to know my assignment before late-July?
It is impossible for us to predict when/if spaces will become available or when/if we will get to your name on the waitlist. As we get closer to July, we will begin to post updates on this page. If you are uncomfortable with this level of uncertainty, you should consider available options off-campus.
How Are Waitlist Assignments Made?
The date your Fall 2016 Waitlist Application is received by the DOR, coupled with your status as either a current on-campus or off-campus student, determines your place on the waitlist. When you will receive an assignment depends on a number of factors:
the type of space available,
your place on the waitlist,
the preferences you selected on your waitlist application,
your smoking status.
When we reach your name on the waitlist, if the space that opens up is within your preferences and matches your gender and smoking status, we will email your ISU account with an assignment offer. YOU WILL HAVE 24 HOURS TO RESPOND.
If you accept the offer, we will assign you to the space.
If you reject the offer or do not respond, we will move your waitlist application to the end of the list and offer the space to the next person.
How will you get in touch with me?
All communication about the waitlist will be done via email to iastate.edu accounts, so it is important you check your ISU email frequently.
I know someone who is going to cancel their contract. Can I have their space?
We will follow the above process for all spaces that become available. Contracted students cannot "give" their space to someone on the waitlist, nor can you "claim" a space that you know is going to vacate. Also, the Contract Assumption
process will be suspended so long as there are still students on the waitlist.
I don't want to be on the waitlist anymore. What do I do?
If you make other housing arrangements, please let us know right away so we can move on to other students. To remove yourself from the wait list, please email email@example.com
and include the following information:
