Assignment Changes
We understand the impact that housing can have on your ISU experience and we consider all of our residence halls and on-campus apartments to be quality locations where students can be comfortable, involved and academically successful. That said, we also know that, for any number of reasons, some students would rather live somewhere different than where they are currently assigned. Once you have an assignment, the ability to make a change is completely in your hands.

General Information
- You cannot CHANGE an assignment if you don't have one to change.
- Whether or not you will be able to make a change is dependant upon the availability of vacant space and your eligibility for the space that is available.
- If you are a New Student assigned to a Residential Learning Community, you may need to contact us prior to making changes during June and July.
- The DOR does not maintain waiting lists for assignment changes, nor do we assign priority to individuals based upon who they are or why they want to make a change.
- All assignment changes are done by you, the resident, in AccessPlus. To make a change, log in to AccessPlus, select the Student Tab and then select Campus Housing from the left-hand menu. For more instructions on how to use AccessPlus, please visit our Using AccessPlus section.
- If you are not able to select a specific assignment in AccessPlus, it is typically because it is not truly available or because you are not eligible for that space. The fact that no one is physically in a space does not mean that the space is not assigned to another indivual. And no, we will not move that person so that you can have the space.
- Under no circumstances will the DOR move / remove your roommate because you want to live with someone else, you want the room to yourself, etc.
We realize that for many new students, one of the biggest adjustments is sharing a room. We also know, through decades of experience, that the most successful roommates are the ones who effectively communicate with each other. Text messages, sticky notes, e-mails and blog comments do not constitute effective communication. Before you consider changing your room because it appears that you and your roommate don't seem compatible, read our Roommate Relationship section and talk to your CA / RM or Hall Director.
Fall Assignment Change Timeline

| Recontracting - mid-May | Continuing Students only can select and change their assignment for the next year. This option ends the Friday of finals week for spring semester. Please visit our Recontracting section for more information. |
| Mid-May - June | Assignment changes are not available as the Administrative Services office is in the process of making New Student assignments. |
| June - July | AccessPlus is available on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays throughout June and July for any student (New or Continuing) to make changes to their existing assignment. The system is closed Sunday-Wednesday so the Administrative Services office can continue making New Student assignments. |
| August - 3rd Monday of the Fall semester. | Assignment changes are not available so move-in preparations can be finalized and the Administrative Services office can finish making assignments. Following move-in, an "assignment freeze" is in effect for the first two weeks the classes. This allows the DOR the opportunity to get all students moved-in and to take inventory of occupancy and vacancies. |
| 3rd Tuesday - Thanksgiving Break | AccessPlus is available on Monday - Saturdays for students to change their existing assignment. The system is closed Sundays for administration and maintenance. |
Spring Assignment Change Timeline

Meal Plan Changes / Cancellations
If you live in Richardson Court, Union Drive or Buchanan Hall, you are required to have a meal plan. If you live in Wallace Hall, Frederiksen Court or SUV, meal plans are encouraged, but not required. With so many options, it is likely that you will find one that fits your needs! If you live in an area where a meal plan is required, you can only cancel your meal plan if you also cancel your housing, at which point penalties may apply. If you live in an area where a meal plan is not required, you can cancel your plan up to the first Friday each semester. Afterwards, you can only cancel your meal plan if you also cancel your housing, at which point penalties may apply.
Initially, students assigned to meal plan required areas are defaulted to the Premium Cyclone Plan. For the 2008-2009 academic year, meal plans can be changed / cancelled according to the folloing schedule:
